Empowering Scottish Ethnic Minority Led Research
At the Melting Scot we have three main aims:
- Grant Funding – Award grants to Undergraduate and Master’s students to encourage innovative research related to issues concerning ethnic minority Scots
- Mentorship – Provide mentorship opportunities to connect students with established academics and professionals in relevant fields
- Networking – Facilitate networking opportunities and an annual conference to improve the discussion of ethnic minority related research in Scotland.
Background
Ethnic minority related research is broad and insightful in Scotland. There are students who have written their Undergraduate and Master’s dissertations on ideas such as ethnic minority inclusion in Scottish workplaces, accent discrimination on Scottish university campuses, or overcoming barriers to cycling by ethnic minorities in Glasgow.
These bodies of work started as a simple idea, and provide us with invaluable insight to improve diversity and inclusion in Scotland. The Melting Scot wants to collate these ideas together, and begin a wider discussion for equality in Scotland has Scottish ethnic minority based research at its heart.
